Germany’s Foreign Minister visits Israel for the eighth time since the Hamas terror attack. She is proposing ways to achieve lasting peace.
Tel Aviv (dpa) – Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has called for an international security partnership to end the violence in the Gaza Strip. “In order to build lasting security, it’s now crucial to find ways to stop the violence in Gaza and end the fighting on a permanent basis,” said the Minister at the Herzliya Security Conference organised by the Institute for Policy and Strategy and Reichman University in Israel. This issue was the focus of all her talks in Israel as well as with Germany’s American, European and Arab partners.
It is the Minister’s eighth visit to Israel since the bloody terrorist attack on the country by the Islamist Hamas on 7 October. In the course of her trip, the Minister will also be holding talks in the Palestinian Territories and in Lebanon.
“Lasting security for all Israelis will only be possible if there is lasting security for the Palestinians. And by the same token: there can only be lasting security for the Palestinians if there is lasting security for the Israelis,” said Baerbock. She once again called on the Israeli government to respect human rights and international law in its military operations in the Gaza Strip. At the same time, the Minister called on the Islamist Hamas to “put an end to this horror” and release all hostages.
